A warning about vehicle fires resulting from alcohol-based sanitisers.

As we look set to have some hot weather in the coming days, we have received a safety alert warning of the potential fire risk caused by alcohol-based hand sanitiser being left in vehicles.

There have been a number of incidents reported of fires in vehicles caused by alcohol hand sanitiser being left in the vehicle and becoming heated. When the sanitiser becomes heated it releases flammable vapours. These vapours are reaching their ‘flashpoint’ and this can cause them to ignite in normal air conditions, setting fire to flammable components within the car.

Please make sure that you remove all alcohol-based hand sanitiser products from your vehicle when you are leaving it unattended.
