Apprentice Electrician Chloe on the benefits and rewards of apprenticeships

I chose an apprenticeship because I wanted to work but learn at the same time so that it would enhance my knowledge and give me multiple opportunities in my career.

I have learnt a lot in the time I’ve been here; not only about the work that I do, but also the way the company functions, the training courses they’ve put me on and the college they chose for me. I’ve been thriving on my college course which is exactly what I wanted.

There are so many opportunities whilst doing an apprenticeship - I’ve been trusted with an amazing opportunity to work on a new work site of 10 new-build houses for Plus Dane alongside subcontractors which has been a great experience and achievement.

It has been the best decision I have ever made. I’ve been able to finish my qualifications and also become competent in my work and more confident within myself as a person. As for the future, I feel like an apprenticeship like mine has given me great hope for a full time job as an electrician.

Plus Dane have not only supported me as an apprentice, but also supported me as a woman in the trades industry which has helped me enormously and I couldn’t be more thankful for the ongoing opportunities provided to me.

I’ve made great friends in work, everyone’s so welcoming and always happy to talk you through what they’re doing, even if it’s not your trade! I’m in electrical and I’ve learnt a lot from the gas team just from working alongside them.

My advice would be not to hold back on the potential you can obtain, just give everything you’ve got and work hard and you’ll reap the benefits, for sure.
