Give Time, Get Skills, Go Places
A group of Merseyside Housing Associations have given their backing to a programme designed to support their unemployed customers to get back into work.
GiveGetGo is a unique training course that specialises in helping people build up their confidence in the workplace using volunteering opportunities to connect people and employers. The next course begins at Everton FC in June and the project, delivered by the Transform Lives Company, is now looking for people who would like to take part.
Andrea Howarth, acting executive director for neighbourhoods at Plus Dane Housing, one of the associations working in partnership with GiveGetGo, said: “The GiveGetGo course has an excellent success rate of helping people back into work. Getting involved will give participants the chance to volunteer in organisations such as Everton in the Community, The University of Liverpool, Knowsley Safari Park or Speke Hall amongst others, as well as being mentored by an employee there.”
“There’s job search support throughout and after completing the programme, participants are guaranteed to be interviewed for vacancies at the University of Liverpool if they can demonstrate they meet the minimum criteria. Over 40% of people who have taken the course have gained employment with organisations such as the Home Office, Wirral College and Merseyrail, in roles such as admin, gardening, customer services, nursing, security and more.“
GiveGetGo has helped to give people, including lone parents, veterans, young people and ex-offenders, a path back into work. Previous participants have gone on to secure work in places like the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Lennon Airport, and the NHS.
The 12-week course is designed for customers of Plus Dane Housing, South Liverpool Homes, Cobalt Housing, Knowsley Housing Trust and Northwood Together who are recently out of work, long-term unemployed or working part-time and wanting to increase their hours, giving them the opportunity to volunteer in a high profile organisation, build their confidence and achieve their goals. Participants will also receive training on motivation, resilience, and managing stress.
If you are interested in joining the next intake of GiveGetGo, come along to an information session being held at Everton FC’s Goodison Park on 20th June at 10am or contact Transform Lives on 07748817260 for more details.
