Housing Association chief executive takes part in Northern Futures Summit
The Chief Executive of North West based housing association, Plus Dane Group, took part in a high profile debate yesterday looking at the future of the North of England, chaired by Rt Hon Nick Clegg MP.
Barbara Spicer joined a debate panel looking at transformative projects as part of the Deputy Prime Minister’s Northern Futures Summit, hosted by think tank Centre for Cities, a one-day summit looking at how a prosperous economic core in the north of England can be created.
The event was joined by Ed Glaeser, Professor of Economics at Harvard University and Jim O’Neill, Chairman of the City Growth Commission and Former Chief Economic at Goldman Sachs, along with a host of senior officers in national and local government, the private sector and academia, aimed to answer the question ‘how do we build on the strengths in the north to create an economic core at the heart of the region to compete with the biggest cities in the world’.
Barbara Spicer commented: “I was delighted to be taking part in such an important debate into how we can build a more dynamic and prosperous North. I firmly believe that the provision of good quality, affordable housing, plays a pivotal role in any plans to boost the economy, and the ideas presented at Northern Futures provided a valuable opportunity to debate how they could really drive change and create opportunities for all. I was particularly excited to be asked to respond to Professor Rachel Armstrong’s innovative and radical thinking on cutting-edge built environment solutions that improve people’s lives by combining IT and biotechnology.”
