A team from Plus Dane Housing was among the nominees for a national award for excellence in tenant engagement.

Our Engagement and Partnerships team was shortlisted in the ‘excellence in employment, skills and training (over 10,000 homes)’ category at the Tpas awards, for their commitment to creating job opportunities for local residents during a huge regeneration project in Liverpool.

The Tpas Awards is an annual national event celebrating the best examples of tenant engagement, and was held this year in a virtual ceremony because of the coronavirus pandemic.

They are the only awards dedicated to recognising and rewarding engagement excellence and best practice in the housing sector, with nominees including volunteers, housing staff and contractors committed to making lasting change to communities.

Jenny Osbourne MBE, chief executive of Tpas, said: “Our awards and nominees embody the positive, partnership working ethos that Tpas is here to champion and we’ve been celebrating remarkable people doing remarkable things now for 13 years.”

Our Engagement and Partnerships team works with customers and organisations across Merseyside and Cheshire. One of the big projects for the team in the last few years has been around the £17m regeneration of the Welsh Streets area of Toxteth, Liverpool, that is transforming 127 existing terraced properties into 99 modern, contemporary homes.

Over the past two years, Plus Dane has worked in partnership with Penny Lane Builders and Liverpool City Council’s employability arm, Liverpool in Work, to identify gaps in construction employment and equip local people with the skills to fill them. Together they have created nine apprenticeship roles so far.

Emma Sneyd, our head of engagement and partnerships, said: “At Plus Dane, we consider ourselves to be more than just a landlord, and it is vital that the work we do in our communities has a wider social purpose. The regeneration of the Welsh Streets is a huge positive for the area and we were keen to ensure our tenants benefit.

“Our unique joined-up approach to preparing our customers to make the most of the work and training opportunities on offer made a big difference in the quality of their applications and overall success of local people securing the roles.”
