Get connected: accessing digital services

Many people want to use digital services but struggle because of low confidence, limited skills, or lack of access to the technology and internet they need.

As a landlord, we can help, but we’re not experts in digital services. That’s why we’ve partnered with trusted organisations and created a resource hub to make it easier for customers to access the support and services they need.

Need help with digital skills? We're here to support you!

Plus Dane has teamed up with We Are Group to offer free help with all things digital. Whether it's getting online, setting up accounts, or using social media safely, we’ve got you covered!

We can assist with:

  • Accessing the internet

  • Setting up emails and online accounts

  • Shopping safely online

  • Using mobile phones, tablets, and laptops

  • Work search skills & CVs

  • Learning new digital skills

Support is available in a community setting or at home – whatever suits you best!

We’re here to help you get online and stay connected!

Social tariffs are cheaper broadband and phone packages for people claiming Universal Credit, Pension Credit and some other benefits. Some providers call them ‘essential’ or ‘basic’ broadband.

  • It's available to those on a variety of benefits. If you or someone in your household claims Universal Credit, you could switch to any of the tariffs available.
  • It's cheaper than a regular package. Current prices range from £10 to £23.
  • Fast, unlimited broadband. Most tariffs offer superfast broadband at speeds over 30 Mbit/s – fast enough for you to keep in touch with friends and family, stream HD films or shop online.
  • You'll pay next-to-nothing to get set up. If you do have to pay any setup costs, these should only be small. Your provider should tell you before you sign up.
  • It could cost nothing to switch. If your provider offers a social tariff, you can switch to it at any time, free of charge.
  • The price won't go up mid-contract. You won't pay any more than what you agree at the start of the contract.
  • It costs nothing to leave. You won't pay a fee to leave the tariff before the end of your contract.

You can find a full list of broadband and phone social tariffs providers here.

There are lots of hubs available within local communities, which offer free internet access, training and courses. We've created a handy map so you can find the nearest hub to you.

Liverpool City Region have created a detailed map of Hubs in the LCR, which you can find here.

Cheshire East have created a local resource hub of information for those who live in the area, which you can find here.

In today's digital age, access to technology is more crucial than ever. From online education to remote work opportunities, having a computer and internet access can significantly impact a person's ability to thrive in different aspects of life. However, for many, the cost of IT devices and internet services can be out of reach.

At Plus Dane, we believe that everyone should have access to the tools they need to succeed in the digital world. That's why we're dedicated to providing you with information and resources about digital services and affordable IT equipment.

Plus Dane are working with likeminded organisations to recycle our old laptops, mobile phones and tablets and distribute this refurbished equipment to our communities - whether direct to our customers or through local groups and charities.

Have a look at the list below of some local organisations that offer support and equipment so you can get online:

Getting online can open you up to a world of information, help and friendships all at your fingertips. However, there are some risks that you need to be aware of. We want to help you to avoid these pitfalls by providing a series of top tips.

  • Only use trusted websites, especially when shopping. Many people are put off shopping online because they think it is not safe. Make sure you only use recommended, secure websites and try to stick to well-known brands or high-street names.
  • Look for the lock symbol - look for the small padlock symbol in the address bar and check the website starts with https- the ‘s’ stands for secure. These are both signs that the website is safe.
  • Beware of links - You should always enter the address manually rather than follow links. Typing the full URL (the website address beginning ‘www.’) into the address bar will protect you from phishing, a fraud technique where fake websites are set up to try and tempt you to enter sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details. Often these sites pretend to be the sites of banks or big high street retailers.
  • Keep all your receipts - save all your online transactions including receipts, order confirmations and reference numbers. The more records you have of a transaction, the better position you will be in if something goes wrong.
