Our Chair, Max Steinberg CBE, will receive an Honorary Doctorate from Edge Hill University in recognition of his outstanding contribution to public life.
The honour reflects a career spanning more than 50 years, during which Max has played a leading role in major civic, economic and cultural developments in regeneration, business, culture, health and housing across Liverpool, Merseyside and the North West, including as Board Chair here at Plus Dane.
Max said: “I feel incredibly proud to be honoured in this way by Edge Hill University, an institution I hold in the highest regard.
“From its earliest days, Edge Hill has been committed to widening access to education and creating opportunities for people to fulfil their potential. That is an ethos I share deeply, and one that has also guided many of the organisations I have been privileged to serve.
“As a parent, I understand the importance and influence that higher education can have on young lives, and I feel privileged to be able to use my experience, in any way I can, to support the University and its students in the years ahead.”
Born and raised in Liverpool, Max began his working life at Liverpool City Council in 1975, followed by 25 years at the Housing Corporation working in housing and regeneration.
He was instrumental in securing and delivering the International Festival for Business, held in Liverpool in 2014, 2016 and 2018, which delivered substantial business growth opportunities in the local area.
Max was awarded an OBE in 1997 for services to housing and regeneration in Merseyside and a CBE in 2013 for services to business and the community. He was also commissioned as a Deputy Lieutenant of Merseyside in 2020.
Professor Kurt Allman, deputy Vice-Chancellor, said: “We are delighted to award Max this honour in recognition of his longstanding commitment to the people and communities of Liverpool City Region and the wider North West.
“Max’s dedication to public service, his belief in the transformative power of opportunity and his commitment to supporting future generations closely reflect Edge Hill University’s values. We are proud to welcome him into our community and to celebrate the lasting impact he has made across the region.”
